Famous photographer Ansel Adams said “You don’t take a photograph, you make it!”

This means you have to work to get the right shot – one which will evoke memories or instill feelings. You have to have spent time learning your craft and using images. Take beverage photography, for instance. It takes time and practice to understand how the physics of light and chemistry of liquids react under different types of light to create an image which at the end of the day, makes you want to drink it. Likewise, for newborn photography cute photos of the baby are nice but we want to create images that also take you back to remembering that newborn baby smell, the smoothness of the skin and the new love felt for latest family member. There is always a story or reason behind every image, we want our images to reflect that that story.

Colouring Light Studios is the creation of Susie and Gary Wilson. A corporate and lifestyle photography studio where high quality images are created that tell stories and invoke emotions, where client focus and support are a priority and attention to detail and quality are second to none. After trading as Gary Wilson Photography over 18 years they have decided that now is the time for a new business which not only reflects them both equally as professional photographers but also encompasses their style and widened photographic specialities.

Why colouring light? Colour is the psychological connection which relates the images with mood, feeling, geography, culture and food – when in harmony it can take your images to new levels and bolster the entire story.  Our commercial imaging is either colour corrected to ensure accuracy with corporate branding or graded to assist invoking the correct message to the viewer. Lifestyle imagery can toned to reflect personal preference, styling or even to match your house decoration colour scheme.

Colouring Light Studios specialises in the printing of lifestyle images and combining them with high quality Australian manufactured frames, albums and display books. We consider your images as family works of art and such deserve to be displayed in printed form as fine art albums, books or framed artwork. While digital copies are available, they are considered as part of our printed collections. Digital media storage devices are rapidly becoming superseded by new technology, for example, many new computers don’t come with a disc drive – yet 10 years ago your beloved photos were all stored on CD-ROM discs, printed images can easily last over 100 years.

Susie and Gary are supporters of local community, small businesses and sustainable living. Our business packaging is sourced from environmentally sustainable products and is designed to be reused while supporting community initiatives, for example, the string used to secure the packaged albums and books is from the Araliya Community company – whose aim is to establish a learning facility for the deaf and dumb children in Sri Lanka. Our albums and other presentation and display items are from Australian and New Zealand manufacturers.

Susie and Gary are currently designing their new photographic studio, which will be an environmentally friendly, solar passive structure constructed with straw bales in a semi-rural location. Other ways they support their local business community is through their new business support initiative, offering business, design and photographic advice combined with website and email hosting along with education in managing their business website and running a camera club for staff from the local emergency department and emergency services.
